Description: Used for ages 11 to 17 years. The Personality Inventory for DSM-5—Brief Form Pediatric (PID-5-BF) is a 25-item self-report measure that assesses personality dysfunction across five trait domains of negative affect, detachment, antagonism, disinhibition, and psychoticism. The measure is the brief form of the longer 220-item Personality Inventory for DSM-5.
The five trait domains assess the following (there are five questions for each domain):
- Negative affect: emotional lability, anxiousness, separation insecurity, perseveration
- Detachment: withdrawal, anhedonia, intimacy avoidance
- Antagonism: manipulativeness, deceitfulness, grandiosity, attention seeking
- Disinhibition: irresponsibility, impulsivity, distractibility
- Psychoticism: unusual beliefs & experiences, eccentricity, perceptual dysregulation
Scoring: Average total score is calculated. Higher scores indicate elevated personality dysfunction.
Average score = Total score / 25
- Normal: 0-1.2
- Subclinical / Mild: 1.3-1.5
- Clinically significant / Moderate: 1.6-1.8
- Severe: 1.9+
Average domain scores are calculated. Higher domain scores indicate elevated domain.
Average domain score = Total score for domain / 5
Clinically significant / moderate or higher score cutoffs for the domains are:
- Negative affect: 1.9+
- Detachment: 1.7+
- Antagonism: 1.5+
- Disinhibition: 1.4+
- Psychoticism: 1.5+
