Measurement-Based Care using Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM)

Measurement-based care is the routine practice of administering symptom scales to guide clinical decision-making. Patient reported outcome measures (typically abbreviated PROs or PROMs) are the questionnaires that patients fill out about themselves (or - for "Proxy" - a caregiver fills out questionnaires about the patient/client).

While PROMs have been used for a long time in clinical practice, there is an increasing the demand for more systematic ways of utilizing PROMs as standard of care in the context of ongoing reform efforts of the US Healthcare System. There is good evidence showing that PROMs can be clinically useful in many circumstances to improve treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction. In addition, recent progress in psychometric research and advances in healthcare IT are facilitating the adoption of systematic PROM data capture and reporting at the point of care.

The goal of SPHSOutcomes.net is to assist with the collection and reporting of PROM data in ways that increase the benefit of PROM for patients and clinicians while decreasing the burden of data collection and documentation.
