Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription medications, and other Substance (TAPS) (adult/pediatric)

Description: Tobacco, Alcohol, Prescription medications, and other Substance (TAPS) is a 4-item measure that screens for tobacco use, alcohol use, prescription misuse, and illicit substance use. This is part 1 of a longer screening measure.

Pediatric self-report ages: 8-17 years
Adult self-report ages: 18+ years

This measure meets CARF requirements.

Scoring: Higher score = more reported tobacco/alcohol/substance use
Scores are reported as positive or negative.

For item 2 regarding alcohol consumption, [taps_drinks_sex] is a numeric value that is auto-populated based on the patient's sex as reported in the EMR: 5 for males and 4 for females.
