Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) (pediatric)

Description: The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) is a 41-item measure used to assess childhood anxiety across 5 factors.

Self-report ages: 8-17 years
Pediatric Proxy-report (patient) ages: 5-17 years

The 5 factors assessed in the measure are:

  1. Somatic/Panic: assesses physical symptoms associated with panic and anxiety.
  2. General Anxiety: evaluates excessive worry and anxiety that is not specific to particular situations.
  3. Separation Anxiety: measures anxiety related to separation from attachment figures (typically parents/carers).
  4. Social Phobia: evaluates fear and anxiety in social or performance situations.
  5. School Avoidance: assesses anxiety and avoidance related to the school environment.

Scoring: Higher score indicates higher likelihood of anxiety-related disorder.

A total score of ≥ 25 may indicate the presence of an Anxiety Disorder.
