Substance Use Treatment Interest Screen (8+)

Description: Used for patients 8 and older. Created by the Addiction Treatment Services team, patients will receive the Substance Use Treatment Interest Screen if they screen positive on the NIDA-Modified Substance Use Screener.

The screener question asks patients:
Are you interested in a follow-up conversation with an addiction specialist?

Responses to this item will be presented along with their PROM data in Sunrise (t-SPHSOutcomes Report Summary) and on the PROM dashboards.

For Psychiatric Urgent Care admissions: the Addiction Treatment Services team will be alerted to positive screens and follow-up with the patient as appropriate upon the patient's discharge.

For Inpatient, Day Hospital, and Hospital Outpatient Clinic locations: If your patient reports "Yes" to the question, you can complete a "Substance Use Consult" order in Sunrise. A peer recovery specialist will contact your patient via phone (as listed in Sunrise) or in-person if admitted to a day hospital or inpatient program. The specialist and patient will discuss the referral, treatment interest, treatment options based on their needs (outpatient treatment, community resources, or higher level of care), and next best steps to help with the patient's recovery. The peer recovery specialist will complete a Progress Note in Sunrise after completing the consultation.
